| Objectives: | Aims of the study are for : 1). Assessing the effects of planted mangroves on biodiversity in the coastal localities; 2). Assessing the effects of planted mangroves on socio-economic condition of local community (through the increase in income from the collection of crab and shrimp seeds); 3). Studying the methods of propagation and education on mangrove protection for local communities; 4). Contributing in the training of MSc. and PhD students and support students' scientific research. |
| Although the funding is not big, this project has created jobs for MERC's staff and has help establish a Mangrove Ecosystem Research Station, facilitating scientists and students' research. The project has also contributed in the training of Master and PhD students in the area of mangrove ecology. It has also helped significantly improve the awareness of local people about mangrove protection. This achievement are attributed mainly to the project's methods, which includes the participation of local community and Red Cross at all levels as well as closely combines fundamental research with training (of MSc and PhD students). |
