Revised World Mangrove Atlas in Preparation
-We appreciate your valuable inputs!-

The World Mangrove Atlas (1997) will be revised and updated by a consortium of relevant partners includingthe ITTO, ISME, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Programme (MAB), the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC), and the United Nations University (UNU), with aims to further promote the conservation, restoration, management and sustainable use of mangrove ecosystems. The main source of funds will be provided by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO).

The revised edition of the Atlas will include national and local-level case studies, an overall evaluation of the relationships between human societies and mangrove ecosystems as well as the global levels of threat to these precious natural resources. Country data will include: profile, distribution map, threat data where available, and updated information on the current extent and changes in mangrove areas over time.

To carry out this project, each organization takes part in with their expertise. FAO and UNEP-WCMC are taking initiative in collecting and analyzing data. Please help us improve the existing information on mangrove species and vegetation description for each country, their uses and threats, estimates of current and past extents and the distribution maps. Please send us mangrove information such as its distribution, assessment of mangrove forest changes, and its biodiversity protection in your country to isme@mangrove.or.jp.
Your contribution would be highly appreciated for accuracy in the upcoming revised Atlas!
